Smart Dustbin and Cleaning Robot

Many times, in our city, we can see that many garbage bins or dustbins are overloaded in public places, and lots of leftover rubbish are scattered on the ground especially after social events. It causes unhygienic conditions which will be inconvenient for people around. This project aims to design and fabricate a robot that aims for maintaining the cleanliness of public and high-density areas like parks and shopping centers which integrates multiple technologies. The overall purpose of the project is to help collect rubbish or clean up public places especially after general events.
The robot can move around and automatically collect any rubbish or garbage on the ground. The user can also control a robot via a program through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The autonomous robot can also monitor the garbage level and alert the user when it is full. It was interfaced with a smartphone app, which is Blynk. Thus, it is very user-friendly and can be controlled easily by connecting Bluetooth with the device and sending commands to the smart dustbin and cleaning robot.

Description

The autonomous dustbin and cleaning robot can automatically collect garbage and clean up public places. It can move around automatically or controlled manually. The robot will automatically avoid obstacles like walls or heavy and big objects while automatically picking up and cleaning rubbish on the ground. Users can also throw rubbish into the bin without touching or in contact with the bin. They can just hover their hand in front of the bin and the robot will stop and the lid will open automatically. After the user done throwing in the rubbish and remove the hand, the lid will close, and the robot will continue its task. The bin will also monitor the garbage level in the bin. When the garbage level is full, an alarm and notification will be activated to notify the user. The robot using the concept of vacuum and arm mechanism. The arm mechanism consists of a gripper which can pick up bigger garbage such as tin cans. The vacuum system will clean the garbage debris on the ground in smaller sizes which can’t be gripped by the robotic arm. This dustbin and cleaning robot can be used to clean public areas and avoid overloading of garbage bins. The robot is also portable and does not fix in one place, which in turn reduce manual labour and the use of general garbage bins. The smart dustbin and cleaning robot is a community tool for the purpose of cleaning and inspection.

About Us

Run by undergraduates from USM IEEE student branch with the guidance of our counselor Dr Rosmiwati, we are the main members of IEEE USM Student Branch.
Innovation and development. Both words represent the core of USM IEEE student branch. We offer our members in USM opportunities to develop a multitude of skill sets and networking opportunities in preparation to face challenges in future career in engineering. Conferences, competitions, technical workshops, industrial visits are one of the few activities that we have conducted to encourage and empower the new generation of Malaysia’s graduates.
Here, as a USM IEEE Student Branch, we provide a platform to connect the undergraduates and postgraduates alike with representative from various companies. Most of our members have an early exposure to their related working field, thus our members are able to develop themselves well before graduation.
As our society’s pace is growing, we believe that the only way to truly know USM IEEE Student Branch is to join us as part of our team.
